Handheld shots make up 99% of all of my videos. Just take a look around my YouTube channels, Fr33manTV and Fr33manTVraw. As a liberty activist, I need to be prepared to move and focus in on the action of a police chase, an arrest, or a march. That means I do a lot of moving around with my video camera, and the shots can never be steady. That’s why this tool was invented: the Steadicam. It may seem pricey for folks who don’t do video production, so let me know what a great bargain this is. In Hollywood, this tool would go for thousands of dollars, and if you didn’t have that kind of dough, you would rent out a man from a company who has purchased one of these things for hundreds of dollars an hour to wear a vest and a harness and capture the shot that you want him to capture. It would cost hundreds of dollars to get just a few seconds of video and then that money’s spent — it’s gone! With the steadicam, I can get Hollywood professional shots that appear as if the camera is floating in air. Always steady, always in focus. Let’s face it: I’m going to be making another movie out of the footage I shoot as an activist. An investment in this tool today will enhance the look of the next documentary.
